#TANKATUESDAY Weekly #POETRYCHALLENGE #266 #ThemePrompt @ColleenChesebro #DropDrip poetry created by @YvetteMCalleiro

Hi everyone! ๐Ÿ™‚

Today, Iโ€™ve joined Colleenโ€™s weekly TankaTuesday challenge, which asks for us to create a syllabic poem based on the themes of Fire and Water, picked by Donna Matthews from last monthโ€™s challenge.

As ever, we need to avoid โ€˜ingโ€™ ending words if at all possible.

You can find Colleenโ€™s post HERE.

I’ve chosen to use a new form, Drop Drip, Created by Yvette M Callerio, which looks like a raindrop. The Drop-Drip has 12 lines with syllables 1-2-2-3-3-3-4-4-4-3-2-1. This creates a shape poem that looks like a raindrop. In my head, it looks like a large raindrop collecting on a ledge and falling once itโ€™s gathered enough weight. The form is untitled, and should be paired with a picture, but should be understood alone as well.

Here is my poem:

Ukraine flag and yelling soldier, head shot, overlaid with fists of fire and water

love and loss

hot tears cascade

senseless pointless

raw violence

needs to stop

be kind

I hope you enjoyed this new form of syllabic poetry.ย Have a lovely day! ๐Ÿ™‚

What a powerful poem, Harmony. You’ve captured the senselessness, the terror, the utter insanity of it all. Well done, my friend. ๐Ÿ’—

I’m so honored that you chose to use my new poetry form, Harmony, and I absolutely love your poem! Your use of fire and water and its different symbols really tied together with your theme. I especially love the “hot tears” which combines both fire and water in their essence. Beautifully done! ๐Ÿ™‚

Harmony, I think Yvette’s “Drip Drop” form was a perfect choice for the theme. Well done. You expressed in your poem what we all feel… the war in Ukraine needs to stop. <3

Priscilla Bettis

It IS shaped like a drop, cool. Excellent poem, Harmony. War is awful, tears indeed.
