My Review:

🌟🌟🌟🌟

A sweet children’s book

In this quick, sweet kid’s read, we meet Ella and her dog Izzy, who share a magical adventure which involves a frog in a wooden boat, a field of dancing flowers, and an ant playing a banjo, amongst other wonders. The story is about friendship, helping out people in need, and sticking together.

Amazon rates the book for between 3 years and 8 years; however, I feel that the lower age limit would suit 6 or 7 years and upward for this layout of book, which is great for those young readers just being introduced to chapter books. Otherwise, the child would need an adult to sit and read this with them, which the rhyming style would suit. The illustrations are on the basic side, though, for holding a younger child’s attention while being read to.

The illustrations are simple and charming, and the narrative is written in rhyming prose, which catches the attention and has a lively, engaging rhythm. Rather than use pull quotes, I include a couple of jpegs instead so you can see examples of the illustrations and layout.

The Adventures of Izzy and Ella by AJ Cameron gets a solid four stars from me.

NOTE ON RATINGS: I consider a 3-star rating a positive review. Picky about which books I give 5 stars to, I reserve this highest rating for the stories I find stunning and which moved me.

4 STARS: I WOULD PULL AN ALL-NIGHTER — Go read this book.
3 STARS: IT WAS GOOD! — An okay read. Didn’t love it. Didn’t hate it.
2 STARS: I MAY HAVE LIKED A FEW THINGS —Lacking in some areas: writing, characterisation, and/or problematic plot lines.
1 STAR: NOT MY CUP OF TEA —Lots of issues with this book.
