How To Decorate Wedding Crutches

Hello everyone. Today is my wedding day! And to tide you over in my absence while I’m busy becoming a Mrs and honeymooning, I’ve finally put together this post on how I decorated my old, scuffed grey crutches for my wedding. I promise I’ll post pics of the dress and me n hubby when I get back 🙂

When I did a search on how to do this, I came up with a blank. It’s one of the few times an internet search has failed me. On all the relevant forums, everyone advised you to postpone the wedding until you no longer need crutches. In my case, this would never happen (not without great leaps forward in technology, lol.) And so, the idea for this post was born.

So, here’s how to get from old scuffed crutches to this …

1. Take your old crutches …

2. Take your double-sided sticky tape …

This needs to be strong. I bought mine via ebay.

3. Wind the tape around your crutches …

* Don’t wrap the handle. The material on my handles reacted to the sticky tape, and I ended up with a wet mess. I had to remove the tape and sugar-soap it. The ribbon wraps fine without the tape. (You could wrap the tape straight to the crutches if you wanted. I’m a belt and braces kind of a gal, though, and wanted to make sure it stuck!)

*Once your tape is on, carefully peel off the paper to expose the sticky tape.

4. Now wrap your satin ribbon around the crutch …

I bought this from ebay.
Take care to keep the ribbon straight and don’t twist it or let it crease.

5. Cut the end of the ribbon with a heated ribbon cutter …

The ribbon cutter will stop it from fraying. You don’t want to cut it with scissors as it will leave you with a tattered end.
You can pick up a ribbon cutter in most craft stores or from the likes of Amazon and ebay.

6. Take your organza flowers & superglue …

*Turn the flower wrong side up and apply a small dab of superglue.
* I bought my flowers from … you guessed it(!) … ebay.
*The superglue is general household glue.
*I used a cleanable mat for glueing to protect my work surface. You can pick one up from most craft stores or the likes of Amazon and ebay.

7. Stick your flowers one at a time over the wrapped satin ribbon …

You’ll need to press and hold for about 60 seconds.
**Take care not to glue your fingers to the flower!**

8. Stick a flower over the join where your ribbon ends …

This helps to disguise the join.

That’s it! You’re done!

  2. All my years of crafting, and I didn’t know there was such a thing as a ribbon cutter. Now I need one.
