AmWriting!-14
Hello everyone!
Today makes day fourteen of writing Backstage, and I’ve managed 6,000 words!
Yes, you did just read that correctly … that’s SIX THOUSAND words! Wowzers 🙂 And on a workday too. That brings my fourteen-day total to 47,916.
Okay, so fanfare all done with, here’s an excerpt for you …
Jeanine led them to a small room at the back. Mel sat in there waiting. When they entered, she looked worried and rose to her feet. Emma hastened to reassure her, ‘It’s okay. Look, I’m sorry about earlier. It just took me by surprise, seeing you. Are you all right?’
Mel retook her seat on the small sofa, and Jeanine and Emma occupied the two furnished chairs. Emma glanced around. The room appeared to be some kind of reception/waiting area. With its walls of warm oak and its thick carpeting, it felt cozy and welcoming.
Mel cleared her throat. ‘I should be the one apologising. I never should have gone along with him.’
Emma couldn’t quite hold in her anger. The whole thing still felt too raw, especially with the hearing looming. ‘So, why did you?’ Right, because it’s not like you didn’t let him coerce you, is it, dearest?
Mel’s next words echoed Emma’s thoughts, ‘He did the same thing to you.’
Stubborn, in denial, Emma shook her head. ‘It’s not the same thing. And I got out of it as soon as I could.’
Mel jumped to her feet and yelled, ‘This is me trying!’
Her unexpected outburst startled Emma and gave her pause for thought. She couldn’t refuse to admit the truth of it any longer. With a bowed head and a subdued voice, she said, ‘Yeah. You are.’
Mel dabbed at her eyes and sought encouragement from Jeanine, who nodded and smiled. Mel looked at Emma. ‘I plan on going to the police tomorrow. It seems about time I added my complaint to the list.’
Very impressive, Harmony! Woot-woot!
Thanks, Staci! So thrilled with this one! 🙂
Woo-hoo! What a score! Can you send some of that energy my way, please? 🙂
Lols! If I could, I would! Seriously, I don’t know where this is coming from, but I’m making the most of it ?
