“Fiction In A Flash Challenge” Week #14 NEW Image Prompt. @pursoot #IARTG #ASMSG #WritingCommunity.
Hi everyone!
I hope you’ve had a good week. My muse jumped on this week’s picture fiction prompt from Soooz, and I have a bit of flash fiction for you, entitled Alienated. I was determined to write this one in 100 words. Not one more. Not one less. I’d love to know what you think of the result 🙂
The image prompt comes from Soooz’s blog: https://sooozburkeauthor.wordpress.com/2020/08/21/fiction-in-a-flash-challenge-week14-new-image-prompt-join-in-the-fun-pursoot-iartg-asmsg-writingcommunity/
Alienated
John wanted success. Acceptance.
But he’d woken with a headache and mental block.
Now everyone sat laughing at him, and not because of his wit. He was the joke.
Trying to bury the sudden stage fright that had him standing there mute as a mushroom, he picked on the weird skinny guy at the back.
Big mistake.
John’s headache intensified. Smoke and fiery light swirled beneath crushing downward pressure.
A UFO dropped from the sky. In a voice not his own, John cried, ‘Humans, bow to your masters!’
Suddenly, he realised last night had been no dream. He’d been alienated.

“Mute as a mushroom.” I love that. Fun story with a surprising end, Harmony. I like the play on the word “alienated.” 🙂 Well done.

It must be a challenge to nail a story in an exact number of words. You did it well, kudos.
I swear, it took me longer to write this than the other 700+ word stories I’ve done from these prompts. Fun, though. So glad you enjoyed it. Thanks, Craig 😊
I like where you took this, Harmony, it was unexpected. Impressive at 100 words. I want to know more.
