Harmony is Vocal again! Behind the Mask: A True Life Story @Vocal_Creators #WritingCommunity #ReadingCommunity

Young woman in white face mask, covers whole face, smelling a deep maroon rose. Dark in nature Hi everyone. Many of you, over the years, have encouraged me to write my life story. Until now, I haven’t felt ready or able. On VOCAL, a “coming of age” competition gave me the final nudge I needed. Behind the Mask: Surviving Life’s ups and downs, is roughly 2600 words and, for the first time, chronicles my many life-changing experiences.
I’d love to know what you think! And I would be delighted if you could read my competition entry HERE and leave a (❤️) like. To like, you’ll need to sign in to Vocal, which is free to do. In the event of a tiebreaker, all reads and likes will be taken into account. Your support would be gratefully received.

Now I’ve managed to pen this much, I feel at a point where I can begin to write a memoir if folks are interested.

While this is a grim read at times, I’ve also tried to show my incurable humour and positivity.

Thanks, everyone! Hugs 🤗💕🙂

  1. Wow, Harmony. What a contract you signed before taking this human body. And I am SO inspired by all you have faced and overcome. You are a true hero. Thank you for sharing your story and may the healing rays of light and love shine on you! Hugs!

    • I should have read the small print, lols! Seriously, though, it makes it worthwhile if my journey helps or inspires even one other person. Thanks, Jan 🙂 Hugs 💕

  2. Heading over to read, Harmony. Don’t be surprised if I pop back over here with a comment. Kudos to you for taking this challenge!

  3. Your story is riveting, Harmony, and what a testament to personal endurance and a healthy soul despite all that happened to you. I’m glad that you’re starting to feel strong enough to write your story. Gave it a big like! Good luck.

  4. Your journey certainly hasn’t been a great one. So glad you were able to rise above to give yourself what you needed when others refused. Do write your memoir, it will be interesting and inspirational for others.

    I gave you a heart.

    • Thanks so much, Michele. I think I’m, finally, ready to make a start on my memoir 🙂

  5. I learned so much from Jewel in the Mud: Zen Musings. I know a memoir would be just as enlightening, if not moreso. You’re an inspiration, Harmony.

    • Thanks so much, Staci. I’m so pleased Jewel proved useful, and your lovely words mean a lot 💕🙂

  6. That was a powerful read, Harmony. I’m really glad you shared it with us and found a way to hang on to your humor. Lots of hugs. xo

    • Thanks so much, Denise. Humour and adaptability are so important, as so many of us have discovered 💕🙂

  7. Thank goodness your sense of humor stayed with you and helped to lift you in the worst of times. Those doctors should be sued and your mother and sister… I’m so sorry your family failed you that way.
    Life is funny; you either have to laugh about it or spend all your time in tears. I know which I prefer {{hugs}}

    • Incredibly sketchy. Anything other than this outline lays beyond the scope of such a short piece.

  8. It’s a miracle you survived, let alone that your sense of humor and wonderful personality survived as well. If you decide to write your memoir, I hope it brings you even more peace and happiness.

  9. It’s hard to imagine where your sister was coming from with her terrible treatment of you. Jealousy, taking only negatives from your strange childhoods? Carry on enjoying this good stage of your life. Is your brother in your life?

    • Sadly, no. The whole family is broken up by this stage. I tried for years. I think you’ve hit my sister’s possible motives on the head. After reading a book by D G Kaye, I realised my sister has become a narcissist, which helps me understand much more of how she behaves. Thanks so much, Janet 🙂

  10. Harmony, you are an inspiration! I knew some of your background, but your Vocal story brought so much more of it into focus. Yes, do write your memoir. I think it would be a healing experience for you and thoroughly inspiring for others.
Of course, I hearted your story. Sending you {{hugs}} too!

    • Thanks so much, Mae! It was difficult to write this story but such a relief afterwards. I agree with what you say about the healing effects of getting this out at last 🙂💕🙂

  11. Harmony, you are a survivor! Bravo to you, my friend. Your story touched me deeply. I come from a troubled past, as well, that I overcame after meeting my husband many years ago. Those troubles don’t define us… your bravery in the face of adversity defines you. <3

    • It never ceases to amaze me how much we can overcome in life, also the massive difference just one single person can make. Thanks so much, Colleen 💕🙂

  12. I believe the house mother you wanted to thank somehow knows from Heaven that you are thankful for her. I didn’t know children could get varicose veins, poor kids! But I’m glad you survived that plus a whole lot more with your humor intact. Great read, Harmony!

    • The doctors guess the veins were due to the premature birth. I was the only kid I’ve known to have them that young, so I think it must be rare. Thanks, Priscilla 💕🙂

  13. Yes, yes, yes! Write that memoir! I’ll be happy to read, for sure. You’ve led an interesting life. I’m so proud of you for moving forward. I’m off to read your story. <3

  14. Harmony dear, I suspected you’d traveled a difficult path because you have one of the biggest hearts I’ve ever known. Life tends to sculpt us through sorrow and you’ve emerged radiant. Thank you for sharing so deeply, so purely. 💗

    • Such true words, Gwen. Likewise, your heart shines through too! Thanks for your wonderful words 💕🙂
