AmWriting!-11

Hi everyone. Today makes day 11 of my days writing. I have written 2200 words today, and that brings my total to 35,638.

Am full of cold, again, today an am clocking off a little early. I can’t believe how much I’ve accomplished in just 11 days 🙂

Here’s another excerpt for you to feast your eyes on …

After she’d shut the door behind them, she leant against it and then sank to the floor, head in hands. Then the sobs came. Great wrenching bursts of them. Bette poked her head out of the kitchen. She looked upset. ‘I’ve made some coffee, dear.’

Emma wiped her eyes and pushed to her feet. ‘Thank you. I could sure use some.’

When she reached the housekeeper’s side, the woman rubbed Emma’s upper arm. ‘There, there, dear. It’ll all get fixed in a jiffy. You’ll see.’

Emma smiled. If only I could share your confidence. ‘Thanks, Bette.’ Only one cup sat on the breakfast bar. ‘Will you join me?’

More ringing of the cleaning cloth ensued.

Emma said, ‘I’d like it if you could sit with me. A cuppa’s always best shared.’

Bette relaxed and let her hands drop, then she smiled and set about pouring another brew. As she worked, she said over her shoulder, ‘We’re all pleased you’ve recovered so well. You looked in such a poor state when you arrived, you know, and we all worried.’

‘Oh. I had no idea. Thanks.’

Bette joined her at the breakfast bar. Emma confessed, ‘I always felt out of place here.’

The housekeeper nodded and patted Emma’s hand. ‘We’ve no airs or graces here, lovey. And if you’re good enough for John, you’re good enough for the likes of us.’

Emma protested, ‘But, I am the likes of you.’

Bette smiled. ‘Well then, you’ll fit right in.’
